Amgen Licenses Molecule for the Treatment of Chronic and Neuropathic Pain to Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

 THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – July 31, 2008 – Amgen (NASDAQ: AMGN) today announced that it has licensed a clinical stage molecule for the treatment of chronic and neuropathic pain to Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (OMJPI), a Johnson & Johnson company. The terms of the agreement include a $50 million upfront payment, the potential for $385 million in success-based milestones and additional sales based milestones and royalties on sales.

Amgen Issues Statement in Response to Revised ESA Labeling Received from the FDA Today

Amgen issued the following statement in response to the receipt today of the complete response on the revised ESA labeling from the FDA.

“This label is consistent with our expectations.  We will soon be communicating the revised product labeling for ESAs to both physicians and patients.”

The potential impact of this revised label was factored into our updated guidance announced July 28, 2008.

Nplate Update

The FDA notified Amgen that they will not issue a decision on Nplate™ (romiplostim) by the PDUFA deadline of July 23, 2008. Amgen continues to work with the FDA to assist in the completion of the review process. We remain optimistic that a final decision will be made soon, but Amgen cannot speculate on the timing of the FDA’s response.
