Amgen Appoints Rebecca M. Henderson to the Company's Board of Directors

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – July 9 – Amgen (Nasdaq: AMGN) announced today that its Board of Directors has appointed Rebecca M. Henderson, Ph.D., to the Company’s Board. Dr. Henderson, 48, has recently joined the faculty at the Harvard Business School, having been the Eastman Kodak LFM Professor of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School since 1999. She specializes in technology strategy and the broader strategic problems faced by firms in high technology industries. From 1995 to 1999, Dr. Henderson was a tenured associate professor at the MIT Sloan School. She has been a director of IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. since 2003. Dr. Henderson’s appointment brings the number of Amgen Board members to 13. Dr. Henderson will serve as a member of the Corporate Responsibility and Compliance and Governance and Nominating Committees of the Board.

Denosumab Demonstrates Superiority Over Zometa(R) in Pivotal Phase 3 Head-to-Head Trial in Breast Cancer Patients With Bone Metastase

Denosumab Significantly Delayed the Time to the First Skeletal Related Event and Significantly Reduced First and Subsequent Skeletal Related Events Compared to Zometa

First of Three Pivotal Oncology Trials Comparing Denosumab to Zometa in the Advanced Cancer Setting Meets Primary and Secondary Endpoints

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – July 7 – Amgen (Nasdaq: AMGN) today announced that a pivotal, Phase 3, head-to-head trial evaluating denosumab versus Zometa(R) (zoledronic acid) in the treatment of bone metastases in 2,049 patients with advanced breast cancer met its primary and secondary endpoints and demonstrated superior efficacy compared to Zometa. Superiority was demonstrated for both delaying the time to the first on-study Skeletal Related Events (SREs)(fracture, radiation to bone, surgery to bone, or spinal cord compression) (hazard ratio 0.82, 95 percent CI: 0.71, 0.95), and delaying the time to the first-and-subsequent SREs (hazard ratio 0.77, 95 percent CI: 0.66, 0.89). Both results were statistically significant.

The winners will help raise public awareness of the condition by walking the runway in the Addressing Psoriasis(TM) Fashion Show hosted by television host and fashion consultant, Tim Gunn ("Project Runway," and "Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style"), on Sept. 2, 2009.
