Teach For America and the Amgen Foundation Renew Partnership to Improve Math and Science Education in Urban and Rural Schools

$1.8 Million Grant Will Enable Teach For America to Recruit and Train More Math and Science Graduates to Join the Teaching Corps

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. and NEW YORK, Dec. 16, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/—Teach For America and the Amgen Foundation today announced the renewal of their partnership to advance math and science education in America’s underserved public schools. Under this partnership, the Amgen Foundation pledged $1.8 million to increase the number of outstanding math and science graduates who join Teach For America’s teaching corps by 2013. This new grant brings the total support from Amgen Foundation to more than $7 million since 2004.

XGEVA™ (Denosumab) Significantly Improved Bone Metastasis-Free Survival in Men With Prostate Cancer

Pivotal Phase 3 ‘147 Study Meets Primary Endpoint

First Bone-Targeted Therapy to Delay the Onset of Bone Metastases in Patients with Prostate Cancer

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., Dec. 13, 3010, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/—Amgen (Nasdaq: AMGN) today announced top-line results from a Phase 3 trial evaluating XGEVA™ (denosumab) versus placebo in 1,432 men with castrate-resistant prostate cancer. The trial, known as the ‘147 study, demonstrated that XGEVA significantly improved median bone metastasis-free survival by 4.2 months (HR=0.85, 95 percent CI 0.73-0.98, p=0.03) compared to placebo (primary endpoint), and significantly improved time to first occurrence of bone metastases (secondary endpoint). Overall survival was similar between the XGEVA and placebo groups (secondary endpoint).
