Amgen’s Statement in Response to the Eshoo/Inslee/Barton Bill to Establish a Pathway for the Approval of Biosimilars

The following statement was issued today by Amgen regarding legislation introduced today by Representatives Eshoo, Inslee and Barton to establish a pathway for the approval of biosimilars.

The legislation introduced by Representatives Eshoo, Inslee and Barton appears to strike a necessary balance in allowing access to safe and effective biosimilar medicines for patients, and providing fair incentives for the discovery of new medicines for serious diseases.

Statement in Response to Chairman Waxman and Senator Schumer's Bill to Establish a Pathway for the Approval of Biosimilars

As a pioneer in developing first-in-class medicines that treat serious illnesses and address unmet health needs, Amgen believes that an abbreviated biosimilar approval pathway must not discourage the development of groundbreaking new treatments for serious diseases.

Amgen Statement on the Announcement of Governor Gary Locke as Commerce Secretary-Designate

Governor Gary Locke, as President Obama’s nominee for Commerce Secretary, will bring to his new position, when confirmed, a sense of urgency about the economy and the central role private sector growth will play in our economic recovery. While Governor, Gary Locke consistently pursued measures that advanced human health, fostered the development of new medicines, and helped to grow the life science and biotechnology industry in the State of Washington.
